“She lives like anyone else, by being like no-one else” Jean Cocteau, artist (1958)
After having fascinated both intellectuals and artists such as Picasso, Van Dongen then Andy Warhol, her cinematic performances inspired generations of international artists from Jimi Hendrix to The Rolling Stones, from Elvis to Joan Baez, from Bob Dylan to Bashung and Vanessa Paradis.
She also heavily influenced the bourgeois-bohème vintage style
Claude Francois taught her to dance the Madison prior to his success; “She has the purity of a child, the beauty of a goddess. It doesn’t matter how you photograph her, it’s always sensational. Plus, she’s nice! But we had to build a relationship with her first, because she is shy.” Christophe recounts in the song ‘Parfums d’histoires’:
“Bardot, bare-foot on the water’s edge / That magical moment when reality shifts.”
“Oh “la belle vie” (the good life), both of us, how we love each other. Oh the good life, we are good, when we love each other. We have fun without fear of tomorrow, sleepless nights that are bending on early mornings.”
Lyrics of Sacha Distel, artist 1957
